Chapter 203

The air in Miami was thick, humid, and smelled o salt and expensive sunscreen.

Elisa and Alastair walked through the massive, sliding glass doors of the Four Seasons Hotel. The lobby was a cathedral of polished marble, towering palm trees, and the low hum of extreme wealth.

Elisa walked directly to the VIP concierge desk. She pulled her black titanium credit card and her passport from her bag and placed them on the cool marble counter.

"Checking in. Elisa Wilder. I have the top-floor oceanfront suite reserved," Elisa said, her voice crisp and professional. She had booked this room a month ago to ensure she had a secure base of operations for the summit.

The front desk manager, a man in a sharp suit, typed her name into the system.

Suddenly, his fingers stopped. A bead of cold sweat broke out on his forehead. He looked at the screen, then looked up at Elisa, his face pale with absolute panic.

"Ms. Wilder," the manager stammered, his voice trembling. "I am profoundly sorry. There has beer a... a force majeure system error. Your suite was transferred thirty minutes ago to an ultra-tier VIP guest."

Alastair stepped forward. His massive frame immediately dominated the space.

"A system error?" Alastair growled, his eyes narrowing dangerously. He knew exactly how luxury hotels operated. "You don't accidentally transfer a ten-thousand-dollar-a-night suite. W/ho used capital leverage to steal her room?"

Before the manager could answer, the sharp, rhythmic clicking of high heels echoed across the marble floor.

"Oh, it wasn't a system error, Alastair."

Elisa's spine went completely rigid. She recognized that high, grating, utterly fake voice instantly.

Allena strolled across the lobby. She was wearing a flowing, ostentatious designer resort dress. Her arm was wrapped tightly around the bicep of August Chambers.

August wore a casual, unbuttoned linen shirt, but his posture was as rigid and aggressive as a loaded

gun.

Allena walked right up to the front desk. She reached into her lmited-edition Hermès bag and pulled out a solid metal Centurion Card-the legendary Black Card of the Chambers family. She slapped it down on the marble counter with a loud, obnoxious smack.

"I'm so sorry, sister," Allena cooed, her voice dripping with toxic sweetness. "But August felt I needed the best ocean view to recover from the trauma of you trying to murder my little brother. So,he just used a little bit of family privilege to upgrade us."

Elisa stared at the Black Card. For seven years, as August's legal wife, she had never been allowed to hold that card. Now, he was using it to fund his mistress and publicly humiliate her.

August stood silently beside Allena. His dark eyes were locked onto Elisa, scanning her face for signs of devastation. He had flown to MMiami to catch her sleeping with Preston. Finding her standing in the lobby with Alastair Cromwell only twisted the knife of his jealousy deeper.

Elisa did not scream. She did not throw a fit.

She looked around the lobby. Several high-profile

tech investors were already gathering near the elevators. If she caused a scene now, Aethel's reputation would take another hit before the summit even began.

Elisa calmly picked up her passport. She turned to Alastair, completely ignoring Allena's existence.

"If they enjoy sleeping in rooms other people picked out, let them have the leftovers," Elisa said, her voice a flat, freezing monotone. "We will go to the W Hotel. It's closer to the venue anyway."

She turned on her heel and began walking toward the exit. Her movements were sharp, decisive, and completely devoid of any emotional attachment. She was throwing Allena's petty victory onto the floor like a piece of trash.

August watched her walk away.

A sharp, agonizing needle of panic pierced his chest. She was leaving. She was walking out of his sight, out of his hotel, and going somewhere with Alastair.

The thought of her sleeping in another building, completely outside his zone of control, made his blood boil.

"Wait," August commanded. His voice was a low,

vibrating rumble that echoed across the lobby.

He took three massive strides forward, physically blocking Elisa's path to the glass doors. His tall, broad body formed an impenetrable wall.

"The Chambers family does not take advantage of women," August said. His chin was tilted up, his tone dripping with the arrogant, suffocating condescension of a king offering alms to a beggar.①

He turned his head slightly toward the terrified manager.

"Open the Presidential Penthouse for her," August ordered, his voice leaving absolutely no room for debate. "The one that is kept empty for state visits.Put the entire stay on my tab."

A collective gasp rippled through the lobby. The Presidential Penthouse cost fifty thousand dollars a night. It was the absolute pinnacle of luxury. And August Chambers was just throwing it at his ex-wife.

Allena's smug smile instantly vanished. Her face twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated horror and jealousy. Her fingernails dug so hard into her palms they almost drew blood. Why was he giving this bitch the best room in the city?

Alastair let out a harsh, mocking laugh. He stepped forward to reject the insulting charity.

Elisa raised her hand, stopping Alastair.

She looked up into August's dark, intense eyes.

She knew exactly what this was. This wasn't generosity. This was a leash. He was terrifed of losing sight of her. He wanted to trap her in his building, under his financial control, to prove to himself that he still owned her.

A slow, chilling smile spread across Elisa's face.It was a smile completely dev/oid of warmth.

She reached out and took the heavy gold keycard from the manager's trembling hands.

"Thank you for your extreme generosity, Mr.Chambers," Elisa said. Her voice was soft, but it cut like a surgical scalpel. "I sincerely hope spending this money makes your pathetic, fragile ego feel a little bit better today."

She held the gold card between her fingers, looking at August as if he were a sad, broken toy.

Then, she stepped around him and walked directly toward the VIP private elevator.

August stood frozen on the marble floor. The brutal, surgical precision of her words had

bypassed all his armor and stabbed directly into his deepest insecurity. He had tried to assert dominance, and she had just publicly castrated his pride.

The heavy steel doors of the VIP elevator slid shut, cutting off his view of her.

Inside the elevator, Elisa leaned back against the mirrored wall. Her eyes turned into dark, dangerous slits. He wanted her in his hotel? Fine. She was going to turn this building into a war zone.
