Chapter 219

Ten minutes later, the atmosphere inside the top-floor boardroom of Aethel Intelligence was absolute zero.

Elisa and Alastair sat side-by-side on one side of the massive, polished mahogany table. August Chambers sat alone on the opposite side. Through the floor-to-ceiling glass walls, the gray, overcast skyline of Manhattan loomed like a silent witness.

August unbuttoned his suit jacket with a sharp, aggressive motion. He reached into his leather briefcase and pulled out a thick, legally bound document. He slid it across the smooth wood until it stopped in front of Elisa.

"Five hundred million dollars," August stated. His voice was flat, carrying the crushing weight of his immense wealth. "A direct, unconditional cash injection into Aethel Intelligence. I have the wire transfer pre-authorized. The funds will clear your holding accounts within sixty seconds of your signature."

Alastair's eyebrows twitched slightly. Five hundred million dollars in liquid cash was a staggering,

world-altering amount of money. It was enough t accelerate Project Chiron's global launch by thre years. It was enough to build an empire, completel bypassing the need for any further venture capita or board oversight.

"The condition is simpole," August continued, his dark eyes locking onto Elisa's face, demanding her absolute compliance. "In exchange, all criminal and civil complaints against Allena Mills are dropped. The police investigation dies today."

Alastair did not speak. He leaned back in his chair and looked at Elisa. He was the CEO, but this was her war.He gave her the absolute power to decide.

Elisa looked down at the document. A wave of intense, physiological disgust rolled through her stomach.

August was willing to hand over half a billion dollars to protect a woman who had tried to murder a child. He was using his massive wealth to bend the justice system, just to protect his own fragile pride and avoid the public humiliation of his mistress going to prison.

But Elisa's brain, trained as the elite Al architect Faye, began to run the brutal calculations.

If she pushed the trial forward, August would hire

the most ruthless defense attorneys in the country. They would delay the trial for years. They would drag Elisa's name through the mud. Even if Allena was convicted, August would use his political connections to get her placed in a minimum-security luxury facility, or secure a medical parole.

But five hundred million dollars? That was the ultimate weapon. That was the capital she needed to completely crush the Chambers Group in the tech sector and build an impenetrable fortress for her daughter,Kayden.

Elisa picked up the heavy brass fountain pen resting on the table. She spun it slowly between her fingers.

A slow, incredibly cold, calculating smile spread across her face.

"The Chambers empire is certainly generous when it comes to cleaning up its garbage," Elisa said, her voice smooth and devoid of any emotion. "I accept the out-of-court settlement. I will take the money."

August's jaw relaxed slightly. A flash of dark, cynical validation crossed his eyes. He had been right all along. She was just like everyone else. She had a price. She was willing to sell her righteous anger for a check.

"However," Elisa said.

She slammed the brass pen down onto the table. The sharp crack echoed in the silent room.

Her eyes turned into chips of black ice. "I have one additional,non-negotiable condition."

August frowned, his irritation flaring. He assumed she wanted a piece of real estate or a yacht. "State it."

"I want Allena to record a public video apology,"Elisa enunciated every single syllable with lethal precision. "It will be broadcast on all major prime-time news networks for three consecutive days."

August's eyes narrowed.

"In this video," Elisa continued, leaning forward,"she will publicly confess that due to extreme personal and professional jealousy, she maliciously mishandled sensitive medical equipment in my presence. She will also state for the record that her most significant research publications were completed only with my direct, uncredited guidance, and that she lacks the independent capability to continue her work. She will admit her 'genius' persona was a fabrication."

The boardroom went dead silent.

August's face turned a violent, apoplectic red. He slammed both of his hands down on the table and pushed himself up, his chair scraping loudly against the floor.

"Are you insane?" August roared, the veins in his neck bulging. "That will permanently destroy her reputation! She will be a laughingstock in the medical community and high society! She will never be able to show her face in public again!"

Elisa leaned back in her chair. She looked up at the furious billionaire with an expression of absolute, chilling boredom.

"Reputation?" Elisa mocked, her voice dripping with poison. "What does an attempted murderer needa reputation for? Here are your choices, August.Either she lives the rest of her life as a publicly humiliated, socially dead pariah... or she goes to a federal penitentiary and learns how to make toilet wine.Pick one."

August stared at he. His chest heaved violently.

For the first time, he truly understood the monster he had created. Elisa wasn't just trying to win; she was trying to systematically, psychologically annihilate Allena.

He stood there, trapped in a suffocating cage of his

own making. If he refused, the police would arrest Allena within the hour. The scandal would tank Chambers Group stock. If he agreed, he would be paying half a billion dollars just to watch his mistress be publicly crucified.

Slowly, the fight drained out of him. The cold logic of corporate survival took over.

August sank back into his chair. He picked up his pen. His hand was shaking with suppressed, homicidal rage.

"Fine," August ground out between his teeth.

He signed the document. He pressed down so hard the gold nib of the pen tore straight through the thick legal paper, leaving a jagged, ink-stained scar on the page.

He shoved the contract across the table. He looked at Elisa, his eyes burning with a hatred so pure it was almost blinding.

"You better pray you never fall into my hands again," August whispered.

Elisa picked up the contract. She stood up, looking down at him with absolute sovereignty.

"Don't worry, August," Elisa said softly. "The next time we meet, it will be in a courtroom. And I will be

taking the rest of what you own."

August turned and stormed out of the boardroom, the heavy glass doors slamming shut behind him.

Alastair looked at the signed contract, then up at Elisa. A fierce, predatory grin spread across his face.

"You traded her freedom for five hundred million dollars and a public execution," Alastair said, his voice filled with dark admiration. "That was brilliant."

Elisa looked out the window, watching August's motorcade speed away into the gray city.

"This is just the down payment," Elisa whispered."Now, we build the weapon that kills him."
