Chapter 25

No.1

The next morning, the sky over Manhattan was a bruised, heavy grey.

Elisa walked into the towering glass lobby of Aethel Intelligence in the Financial District. She bypassed her usual route to the R&D labs and took the secure elevator directly to the 40th floor-the legal department.

The doors opened to a silent, sterile hallway lined with frosted glass walls.

She walked into Conference Room B.

Harvey Vance, a man in a razor-sharp bespoke suit with silver hair and gold-rimmed glasses, was already sitting at the long marble table.

He slid a thick, beautifully bound legal document across the table toward her.

The cover page read in bold, elegant font: Deed of Transfer and Trust Yield Reallocation: East Hampton Estate.

Elisa sat down. She didn't look at the cover. She immediately flipped open the thick stack of premium paper.

"Page thirty-seven," Vance said quietly, tapping his gold pen against the table.

Elisa turned to page thirty-seven.

The text here was a dense, suffocating wall of

legal jargon. It was formatted in a slightly smaller font, buried deep within a section detailing 'Liability Waivers and Future Claims.'

Elisa's eyes scanned the text.

It was a masterpiece of deception. Vance had used archaic Latin legal phrasing and triple-nested subordinate clauses. To a casual reader, it looked like standard boilerplate language protecting the property from future inheritance disputes.

But buried in the center of the paragraph were the lethal words.the signatory hereby irrevocably waives, relinquishes, and permanently surrenders any and all paternal claims, custody rights, visitation privileges, and legal standing regarding the minor child, Kayden Gilmore,born...

Elisa checked the spelling of Kayden's name. She checked the date of birth. Every single letter was perfect.

"Unless he is a specialist in family law actively looking for a custody trap," Vance said, adjusting his glasses, "his brain will automatically skip over this section due to reading fatigue. It is legally binding and practically invisible."

Elisa closed the document.

She pulled a heavy, brown leather envelope from her bag. It had the official Chambers Group Legal Department seal stamped on the front. She had taken it from the penthouse months ago.

She slid the deadly document into the Chambers

envelope, sealing the clasp. The camouflage was complete.

"Thank you, Harvey," Elisa said.

She stood up, clutching the envelope to her chest, and walked out of the conference room.

As she walked down the silent hallway, her encrypted phone buzzed with a priority alert from Jewel. She stepped into a deserted alcove overlooking the city and opened the message. It wasn't text. It was a single, heavily compressed audio file.

Elisa slipped a wireless earbud into her ear and hit play. The sound was distorted, clearly recorded in a loud, crowded bar, but the voices were unmistakable.

First, Julian Hastings, his speech slurred with alcohol. "She's a parasite!" he slurred, his voice cracking with impotent rage. "A goddamn parasite who stole another woman's bed! That's all she is!"

Then, a second fileplayed. This one was a crystal -clear recording of a phone call Jewel had intercepted from a shell company server. It was Simon, August's assistant, speaking to a private investigator.

"Mr.Chambers' orders are absolute," Simon's voice was cold and precise. "Liquidate all of Mr. Hastings'offshore assets. Revoke his credit lines. Contact the board of his tech startup and inform them his family funding has been permanently severed. He wants him socially and financially executed by

morning. The reason? Insulting Ms. Mills."

The audio ended. Elisa stood motionless, staring out at the grey skyline. The earbud in her ear felt like a shard of ice.

She knew August was ruthless in business. She knew he was a narcissist.

But this... this was the action of a sociopath. He had financially and socially executed his own blood relative, his own cousin, simply for hurting his mistress's feelings.

Elisa looked down at the brown envelope in her hands.

Her fingers began to tremble, but she quickly clenched them into tight fists, crushing the edges of the leather.

If August ever found out about Kayden...

No.6

If Kayden ever existed in his world, and she accidentally annoyed Allena, or if Allena felt threatened by a legitimate heir... August wouldn't hesitate. He would crush a five-year-old girl with the same cold, mechanical brutality he used to crush his cousin.

The last microscopic, lingering shadow of guilt Elisa felt about deceiving him vanished instantly. It was burned away by a raging, protective maternal fire.

She wasn't just stealing a signature. She was building a fortress to keep a monster away from her child.

Elisa pushed away from the wall. Her posture was

rigid, her eyes burning with a terrifying, absolute clarity.

She walked to the elevator and hit the down button. She pulled out her phone and opened her messages. She typed a text to Simon, August's executive assistant.

I am arriving at HQ in ten minutes. Tell August to have his pen ready. I'm getting the Hamptons property signed over, per Germaine's orders. Do not make me wait.

She hit send.

The elevator doors opened. Elisa stepped inside.descending toward Wall Street to execute the kill.
