Chapter 101
No.1
The black Maybach pulled to a smooth stop in front of a hidden, uunmarked door in Manhattan's Meatpacking District.
August sat in the back seat. The heavy leather interior smelled of expensive cologne, but he could not breathe. Behind his eyelids, the image of that little girl in the hospital drop-off zone played on a relentless, violent loop. Those dark eyes. The exact curve of that jawline. The desperate, feverish way she had screamed Mommy.
A cold sweat broke out across the back of his neck.He aggressively twisted the platinum cufflink on his left wrist, trying to ground himself in the present. It was a setup. It had to be. Elisa was manipulating him.
In the passenger seat, Simon turned his head.
"Mr. Chambers," Simon said, his voice low and professional. "The PR team has completely suppressed the commotion at the hospital. No photos were leaked to the press."
August yanked his silk tie, pulling the knot away from his throat. The fabric felt like a noose.
"I want you to dig into Jewel Gilmore," August ordered. His voice was a harsh, vibrating growl. "I want her medical records. I want every single piece of background data on that child in the car. Do it tonight."
Simon nodded once. "Understood."

August pushed the heavy car door open and stepped out into the freezing wind. He walked past the massive bouncers, who immediately stepped aside, and pushed open the heavy oak doors of the private, members-only club.
A wall of deafening electronic dance music and thick cigar smoke hit him in the chest.
He walked up the dimly lit stairs to the top-floor VIP booth. The space was packed with Manhattan's elite.
Allena sat in the center of a curved leather sofa. She wore a custom, burgundy velvet gown that clung to her curves. She was surrounded by three socialites, soaking up their endless compliments with a sickeningly sweet smile.
Standing near the glass table, Devon Browning held a martini glass. He was shouting over the heavy bass of the music.
"Thirty minutes!" Devon bragged, laughing loudly."I made one call to the legal department, and they froze every single account that leech had her name on. She is completely starved out!"
The crowd in the booth erupted into cheers as August walked in. They raised their glasses, celebrating his ruthless counterattack against the woman they all believed was a greedy extortionist.
August did not smile. He walked straight to the sofa and sat down heavily. A bartender instantly handed him a crystal glass of neat whiskey. August tipped his head back and swallowed half the burning liquid in one gulp. He needed the fire in his throat to burn away the panic in his chest.

Allena immediately slid across the leather. She wrapped her soft, bare arms around his neck and pressed her breasts against his bicep.
"You took so long," Allena pouted, her voice a high, whining pitch. "Everyone was teasing me that you left me here all alone."
Before August could formulate a response, a sharp, piercing notification tone cut through the noise.
Devon looked down at his phone. The smug grin on his face instantly vanished. The blood drained from his cheeks, leaving his skin a sickly, pale gay.
"Son of a bitch," Devon hissed. He shot up from his chair, his hand shaking with violent rage. He shoved the phone screen toward the center of the table.
It was an Instagram post. An anonymous financial watchdog account, notorious for its brutal accuracy and rumored to be run by a ghost in the Wall Street machine, had just published a massive, public exposé, directly tagging Devon's venture capital fund. A moment later, Jewel had shared the post to her own story.
August leaned forward, his eyes scanning the text.
The original post was not a simple rant. It was a brutally clear, simplified infographic, the kind Alastair's intelligence network could generate in its sleep. It laid out Devon's massive losses in plain, undeniable numbers, completely bypassing the dense Wall Street jargon. The account publicly mocked the fact that his last three major investments were currently hemorrhaging millions. It called him a trust-fund parasite who survived entirely on the scraps of real businessmen.

Jewel's shared version had a simple, furious caption scrawled over it: "Real predators don't bark. They just wait until the prey is bleeding out.Freezing assets is just a coward's way of hiding a
losing hand."
The laughter in the VIP booth died instantly. The heavy bass of the music suddenly felt suffocating.Several socialites awkwardly looked away, staring at their shoes.
Devon's entire body trembled. "I am going to sue that bitch for defamation! I will destroy her!"
Allena felt the muscles in August's arm turn to solid stone. She sensed the dark, dangerous shift in the air.
She immediately blinked hard, forcing tears into her eyes. She rested her head on August's shoulder, letting out a soft, pathetic sob.
"Elisa is doing this," Allena whimpered, her voice trembling perfectly. "She is just so jealous that you love me, August. She is ordering her friends to attack us online because she can't stand seeing us happy."
A wealthy heir sitting across the table leaned forward, trying to score points with August.

"Seriously, August," the heir sneered. "When are you going to kick that crazy woman to the curb permanently?"
A blonde socialite next to him swirled her
champagne. "I heard a rumor today. People are saying Elisa is trying to secretly get pregnant just to lock down a piece of the inheritance before the divorce goes through. Is that true?"
The word pregnant hit August like a physical bullet to the chest.
His lungs seized. The image of the five-year-old girl with his exact jawline violently flashed in front of his eyes again. The suffocating panic of being deceived, of losing absolute control over his own life, mixed with a blinding, explosive rage.
August's fingers clamped around his crystal whiskey glass. His knuckles turned bone-white.
He slammed the glass down onto the crystal coffee table.
The glass shattered with a deafening, sharp crack.Shards of crystal and amber liquid exploded across the table.

The entire booth went dead silent. Nobody breathed.
August slowly looked up. His eyes were entirely black, completely devoid of human warmth. His voice was a low, terrifying rumble that cut through the club music.
"I will never, in my entire life, let that woman carry my child," August declared. The cruelty in his voice was absolute. "Her inferior genetics do not belong anywhere near the Chambers family."
He wiped a drop of spilled whiskey from his thumb.
"My lawyers will ensure that when the divorce decree is finalized, she crawls back to the slums she came from with absolutely nothing."
Allena's eyes widened with pure, victorious ecstasy. She leaned in and kissed August hard on the cheek, wrapping her arms around him as if she were already the undisputed queen of his empire.
Five miles away, in a dark, heavily secured room in Manhattan.①
Elisa sat in a rolling chair in front of a massive,multi-screen computer setup. The glow of the monitors cast harsh shadows across her pale face.

On the main screen, a live audio waveform spiked up and down. Alastair's intelligence team had easily hacked into the club's digital karaoke microphone system.
Elisa sat in the silence of the safe house, listening to the live feed.
She heard the shattered glass. She heard August's
cruel, eugenics-laced declaration about her genetics. She heard Allena's sickening kiss.
Elisa slowly turned her head. Through the open doorway, she looked into the bedroom. Kayden was fast asleep on the bed, her small chest rising and falling beneath the heavy blankets, the white bandage stark against her forehead.①
Elisa turned back to the monitors.
A cold, dead smile stretched across her lips. It did not reach her eyes.
Any microscopic trace of guilt she had ever felt about hiding Kayden's existence evaporated into the cold air. August Chambers did not deserve a daughter. He deserved absolute destruction.②
